Gwangju Buk-gu Launches First Humanities Program Centered on "Human Acts"
On September 18, Gwangju Buk-gu announced that it will launch its first-ever "Humanities Program" this year to meet the growing interest in the humanities following author Han Kang's Nobel Prize in Literature win and to promote a reading culture. This program is centered around Han Kang's novel "Human Acts" and consists of expert lectures and background site visits.
The lectures will be held at the Gwangju Literature Center from October 18 to November 1, led by Jeong Bongnam, former director of the Suncheon Miracle Library. There will be three lectures: "The Nobel Prize in Literature and Author Han Kang," "Reading Han Kang's Poetry Collections," and "A Deep Reading of Human Acts." After the lectures, participants will engage in post-reading activities such as group discussions, transcription, and letter writing.

The final literary tour is divided into the "Author's Path Tour" and the "Boy's Path Tour," visiting locations such as Chonnam National University, Hyodong Elementary School, the home of martyr Moon Jae-hak, Jeonil Building, the former Red Cross Hospital, and the May 18 Democratization Movement Archives. Registration is open to the first 30 applicants starting from September 22, and residents of Buk-gu with children in grades 5 or 6 of elementary school or in middle school are eligible to apply.
