"Gongjicheon People" is a voluntary organization formed by members of Chuncheon Saramdeul, Chuncheon Environmental Movement Federation, and the Korea Ecological Conservation Network. The group aims to create a sustainable ecological city where people and nature coexist by conducting ecological research and conservation activities for Gongjicheon, which flows through downtown Chuncheon.
During the event, 20,000 carp-known for their strong environmental adaptability and water purification capabilities-and 200,000 freshwater snails were released. The province plans to verify the effectiveness and feasibility of the project by mass-producing and releasing aquatic species beneficial for improving inland water quality, while Gongjicheon People will be responsible for environmental cleanup and ecological monitoring.
The province expects that this agreement will help create and protect a healthy aquatic ecosystem in downtown Chuncheon. By establishing a clear division of roles and close cooperation with the citizen ecological group, the province aims to further enhance public trust in its administration.
