Suncheon City Takes Proactive Measures to Prevent Food Poisoning During Chuseok and Seasonal Change
Strengthened Hygiene Inspections
for Market-Distributed and Popular Chuseok Foods
Suncheon City in South Jeolla Province announced on September 15 that it will take proactive measures to prevent food poisoning and ensure food safety ahead of the upcoming Chuseok holiday and autumn outing season.
The city is strengthening safety inspections of food products distributed in the market. Since September 8, it has been conducting joint hygiene inspections for ten days at 140 businesses that manufacture or sell popular holiday foods such as rice cakes and sesame oil in preparation for Chuseok.
Autumn, with its wide temperature fluctuations, is a season when food poisoning occurs frequently, and there is a heightened risk of infections caused by Salmonella and pathogenic E. coli. The city has advised that, to prevent infection, meat should be thoroughly cooked at temperatures above 75°C, and vegetables should be washed at least three times with water, emphasizing the need for special care during food preparation.
