The owner of a pizza shop in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, who killed three people with a weapon, was arrested by the police on September 12.
On the afternoon of the same day, Judge Jeong Jaeuk, the presiding judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, conducted a pretrial detention hearing for Mr. A (41), who is suspected of murder. The judge issued an arrest warrant, citing concerns that Mr. A might attempt to flee.
According to the police, Mr. A is accused of killing three people at the franchise pizza shop he operates in Jowon-dong, Gwanak-gu, on September 3. The victims were Mr. B (49), an employee from the head office, and Mr. C (60) and Ms. D (32), who were a father and daughter and worked as interior contractors. Immediately after committing the crime, Mr. A attempted to take his own life but was injured and received treatment at a hospital for a week. He was arrested by the police on September 10, right after being discharged from the hospital.
During the investigation following his arrest, Mr. A admitted to the charges. He also told the police officer who responded to the scene at the time of the incident, "I stabbed three people with a knife during a dispute over interior work."
When asked by reporters if he had anything to say to the victims' families as he appeared for the pretrial detention hearing, Mr. A tearfully said, "I'm sorry."
