International Agricultural Technology Education Center to Become K-Agriculture Globalization Hub in Buyeo County
Buyeo County and Chungnam National University Join Forces to Establish Korea’s First International Agricultural Technology Education Center
Fostering Global Agricultural Talent and Pioneering Overseas Markets
Buyeo County in South Chungcheong Province is partnering with Chungnam National University to establish the nation’s first International Agricultural Technology Education Center. This initiative goes beyond simple worker training, aiming to transmit advanced Korean agricultural technologies to the world and foster global talent, positioning itself as a hub for the globalization of agriculture.
On September 11, Buyeo County announced that it had held a kick-off briefing for a research project with Chungnam National University (President Kim Jeonggyeom) to promote the establishment of the International Agricultural Technology Education Center at the Seodong Briefing Room. This follows the memorandum of understanding signed between the two institutions on December 11 of last year.
The International Agricultural Technology Education Center is the first domestic initiative in which a university and local government collaborate to educate international trainees, including those from developing countries, on Korean-style agricultural technologies and to strengthen international cooperation networks.
Through pioneering overseas agricultural markets, the center is expected to increase local farmers’ incomes, promote the dissemination of K-agricultural technology, and build a global agricultural diplomacy platform.
Buyeo County is equipped with leading domestic agricultural infrastructure, including the Goodtrae joint brand, smart farm complexes, and facility horticulture complexes. Last year, the county led overseas agricultural development by establishing an 11-hectare rice transplanting demonstration complex and a specialized aseptic seed potato complex in Namangan Province, Uzbekistan.
Chungnam National University will leverage its strengths in agricultural life science research and international academic networks to develop curricula, involve faculty, and operate international cooperation programs.
With Buyeo County’s on-the-ground competitiveness and Chungnam National University’s research and educational capabilities, the International Agricultural Technology Education Center is expected to become a leading model for agricultural education and training in Asia and around the world.
Park Junghyun, Governor of Buyeo County, stated, “This briefing is not just a simple research project, but the starting point for designing Korea’s first international agricultural education and overseas agricultural advancement platform. We will develop Buyeo County into a center for international agricultural diplomacy and global talent cultivation, contributing to regional development and enhancing the nation’s prestige.”
