In Gangneung, Gangwon Province, where an extreme drought continues, it has been revealed that local citizens have provided free meals to firefighters and military personnel, moving many with their generosity.

View original imageAccording to Yonhap News on September 11, Gangneung Hanwoo Town, located in Gangmun-dong, Gangneung, provided free dinners worth 1.8 million won to about 100 military personnel who were deployed for water supply operations over two days, from September 10 to 11.
Byun Jungmin, the owner, said, "In the face of an unprecedented disaster that I have never experienced in my life, I wanted to help those who have come from afar to support the citizens of Gangneung, rather than focus on immediate business profits. That is why I provided free meals to the soldiers participating in the water supply efforts." Byun also stated, "If this disaster continues, I am more than willing to make additional food donations."
Park Yuhun, Chief of Logistics at the Army 3rd Corps, expressed his gratitude, saying, "We thank the restaurant for supporting and encouraging our soldiers. Until the drought in Gangneung is resolved, all of our soldiers will continue to provide steadfast support with united strength and spirit."
On the same day, the Gangneung Senior Club visited Anin Port in Gangneung to provide coffee to firefighters working at the drought disaster site.
The previous day, the youth association and women's association of Sanbuk 2-ri, Seongsan-myeon, Gangneung, visited the Obong Reservoir water supply site and delivered 800 servings of snacks, including bread and beverages, to soldiers and firefighters. Choi Wonseok, head of the Sanbuk 2-ri youth association, said, "We came together with one heart to offer even a small gesture of support to the soldiers and firefighters working hard to overcome the drought in this hot weather."
