National Heritage Administration Selects Recipients for "Transmission Community Revitalization"
Up to 150 Million Won in Support for Intangible Heritage Transmission Organizations

View original imageThe National Heritage Administration announced on September 11 that it has selected thirteen programs for next year's "Transmission Community Revitalization Support Project," including the "Gangwon Arirang Cultural Commercialization Project" (in Jeongseon, Wonju, and Sokcho, Gangwon Province) and "Life Skills Continued Through Salt" (Nam-gu, Ulsan).
This project supports organizations that transmit national intangible heritage community items based on local culture, assisting with systematic transmission activities ranging from research and study to education, hands-on experiences, and promotion. Each program is designed to be implemented in stages through prior consultation and consulting, and can receive annual funding of over 100 million won.
An official from the National Heritage Administration explained, "For programs organized through collaboration between local governments or led by metropolitan entities, an additional 50 million won will be provided on top of the existing 100 million won, for a maximum support of 150 million won."
The first programs selected to support collaboration are the Gangwon Arirang Cultural Commercialization Project and "Chungbuk Makgeolli, Enjoyed Through Stories" (Chungbuk). These are expected to help establish and promote a transmission foundation that goes beyond individual localities to a broader regional level.
Other programs selected for support include Life Skills Continued Through Salt, "Culture Crafted by Hand" (Jeongeup, Jeonbuk), "Jindo Sori Engraved in Hangeul Calligraphy" (Jindo, Jeonnam), and "Twelve Months of Joyful Yecheon Seasonal Customs" (Yecheon, Gyeongbuk).

Each local government will reflect the results of preliminary consultations in December and begin full-scale operations next year, including research, education, and experiential events. An official from the National Heritage Administration stated, "We will continue to foster cultural content that allows the public to easily enjoy national intangible heritage and expand the foundation for its transmission."
