Gapyeong County to Hold "Jazz Festival in Gapyeong" Preview in September, Main Event in October
Gapyeong County in Gyeonggi Province, together with the Cultural Phenomenon Association, will host the "Jazz Festival in Gapyeong" this October, bringing the melodies of jazz to Gapyeong residents and visitors this fall. Prior to the main event, "Jazz Festival in Gapyeong with Jojong-myeon" will take place at 2 p.m. on the 26th in the parking lot of the Jojong Youth Culture Center.
This event will feature performances by youth performance teams, youth bands, orchestras, the Sowhatnola Band, Springs, and other jazz artists. In addition, a flea market and food booths will be available, creating a festival atmosphere that everyone, regardless of age or gender, can enjoy.
In particular, the Sowhatnola Band is a brass band formed in 2018, known for performances that capture the freedom and communal spirit characteristic of New Orleans music. Springs is a three-member coed band that pursues a lively sound, and they are set to deliver comforting music to those who have been struggling and weary from recent flood damage. The main concert will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., while the flea market booths will open from 2 p.m.
From October 17 to 19, for three days, the entire Gapyeong-eup area will be transformed into a venue for an autumn music festival with the "Jazz Festival in Gapyeong." Hosted by Gapyeong County, all performances at this festival are free of charge, allowing everyone to enjoy the event without burden. The festival is also linked with the 22nd Jarasum Jazz Festival, bringing together top artists from Korea and abroad. Through this collaboration, visitors can experience the global trends of jazz right in Gapyeong.
An official from the county stated, "We hope that the 'Jazz Festival in Gapyeong,' a representative local festival, will become an open stage for both residents and visitors to enjoy together," adding, "We expect this event to comfort residents affected by floods through jazz, and to become a platform for mutual growth where the local economy and the arts can thrive together."
