and Boosting Economic Vitality
Jungnang District in Seoul (District Mayor Ryu Kyunggi) announced on September 10 that it has designated 'Rose Moonlight Street' in Mukje 2-dong and 'Woorim Mat Somssi-gil' in Mangwoo-bon-dong as the 9th and 10th alley-type shopping districts, respectively, and held a certificate award ceremony on September 9.

With this designation, both shopping districts can now register as Onnuri Gift Certificate merchants and participate in facility and management modernization projects promoted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Seoul Metropolitan Government. This will enable a variety of revitalization projects, including facility repairs and renovations, convenience improvements, and festival hosting.
Currently, a total of 10 alley-type shopping districts are operating in Jungnang District. Even before the official designation, the district has been promoting specialized street development projects since 2018, such as sidewalk expansion, underground wiring, and landscape lighting installation, to enhance the safety and aesthetics of alleyways. Continuous support tailored to the characteristics of each shopping district has also been provided since then.
Representative examples include the operation of a customer support center and installation of sky awnings at Taereung Alley-type Shopping District (No. 1), fostering a local brand at Sangbong Food Alley-type Shopping District (No. 2), street festivals at Sagajeong 51-gil (No. 3), and night markets at Rose Flower Light Street (No. 4). Bongwoo Market (No. 5), Mukdong Goblin Market (No. 6), Sinnaegu-gil (No. 7), and Gyeomjae Hanshin-gil (No. 8) have also contributed to revitalizing the local economy through facility improvement projects and festivals.
This year, including the newly designated 9th and 10th shopping districts, all alley-type shopping districts plan to hold various events from late September to early October in celebration of Chuseok, aiming to boost local commercial activity.
