Daejeon City Expands Electric Vehicle Subsidies Despite Budget Constraints
An additional electric vehicle support program for the second half of the year has been announced, offering a total extra discount of 1 million won per person-500,000 won from the electric vehicle manufacturer and an additional 500,000 won from Daejeon City.
Daejeon City plans to distribute a total of 467 electric vehicles (413 passenger cars and 54 cargo vehicles) in cooperation with domestic manufacturers for the second half of 2025.
This program is characterized by utilizing financial support from the manufacturers. Despite challenging fiscal conditions, Daejeon City decided to lower the city subsidy per vehicle by up to 1 million won compared to the first half of the year, while negotiating with manufacturers so that both parties each cover 500,000 won of the discount.
As a result, the city can increase the number of vehicles distributed while reducing the subsidy per vehicle, and citizens who purchase vehicles from domestic manufacturers can continue to receive benefits at the same level as in the first half of the year.
Based on this agreement, the city plans to establish a detailed implementation plan in September and officially launch the program.
