Pyeongchang County Raises Pyeongchang Sarang Gift Certificate Discount Rate to 15% and Expands Purchase Limit

Pyeongchang County in Gangwon Province announced that, in order to revitalize the local economy and increase sales for small business owners, it will raise the discount rate for the Pyeongchang Sarang Gift Certificate from the current 10% to 15%. In addition, the monthly purchase limit will be expanded from the current 700,000 won to 1 million won.

This increased discount rate will be applied from September to December 2025, while the expanded purchase limit will be implemented temporarily for two months, in September and October.

This measure is in line with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's nationwide policy to expand the discount rate for local gift certificates. It aims to support small business owners and neighborhood businesses struggling due to the economic downturn and to inject vitality into the local economy by boosting their sales.

Previously, Pyeongchang County temporarily raised the purchase limit for gift certificates during holiday seasons to encourage local consumption and increase sales for small business owners. The recent increase in both the discount rate and purchase limit is an extension of these policies.

As of August this year, 7.7 billion won worth of Pyeongchang Sarang Gift Certificates have been sold. Compared to last year's total sales of 8.2 billion won, this represents a significantly higher usage rate for this year.

Jeon Hae-soon, head of the county's Economic Division, stated, "We hope that the increased discount rate and expanded purchase limit will not only promote local consumption but also provide tangible support for small business owners and neighborhood businesses." She added, "We will continue to actively pursue various policies to stabilize residents' livelihoods and help the local economy recover."
