Gangneung City Begins Bottled Water Distribution to Residents... Priority Distribution to Social Welfare Facilities Completed
Gangneung City in Gangwon Province has begun the process of distributing bottled water to all residents in response to the implementation of a 75% water supply restriction due to the prolonged drought.
Initially, the city had planned to distribute bottled water to all residents if the water storage rate at Obong Reservoir fell below 10%. However, considering the inconvenience to residents, the city decided to begin distribution earlier.
The total amount to be distributed is 3,615 tons across 18 towns and districts (including apartment complexes with more than 300 households), allocated based on population. Each person will receive 12 liters of water (2 liters per day for a total of 6 days).
For the first round, the bottled water will be divided into five regions within each town and district. By September 4, the water will be transported to the speed skating rink in each region, and then distributed to all residents according to the detailed plans of each community center.
In addition, for apartment complexes with more than 300 households, distribution will be handled collectively by City Hall rather than by individual towns or districts to minimize confusion on site. City Hall will designate responsibility zones for each department, and will directly deliver water to those with mobility difficulties and disaster-vulnerable residents.
Meanwhile, by August 29, the city had already completed the priority distribution of 278 tons of bottled water (139,000 bottles of 2 liters each) to social welfare facilities (such as senior welfare centers, facilities for people with disabilities, and senior citizen centers) and educational facilities (including kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools) located in water-restricted areas, except for Jumunjin-eup, Yeongok-myeon, and Wangsang-myeon.
