This event was organized to promote a culture of gender equality and enhance women's rights. It was attended by over 300 people, including Kim Kyungil, mayor of Paju City, Park Daesung, chairman of the Paju City Council, members of women's organizations, and citizens, making it a great success.
The event began with a pre-ceremony performance, followed by the recognition of 28 individuals for their contributions to gender equality, commemorative and congratulatory speeches, a card section and slogan chant, a commemorative photo session, and the Gender Equality Art Festival. Notably, 10 groups participated in the art festival, presenting a variety of performances centered on gender equality, and commemorative gifts were awarded to two outstanding groups.
In the vicinity of the event venue, 10 experience booths were operated, including blood pressure and blood sugar checks (Nurses Association), pinwheel making (Munsan Welfare Center), sales of African handicrafts (Africa Volunteer Group), calligraphy experience (Calli Urban), and beauty services (Beauticians Association), all of which received an enthusiastic response from citizens.
Kim Kyungil, mayor of Paju City, stated, "It is very meaningful that the 30th Gender Equality Week commemorative event is being held at 'Gender Equality Paju,' located within the former red-light district. By transforming this area, once rife with sexual exploitation, into an exhibition hall, healing garden, and civic education space, we have been able to return it to all citizens as a place everyone can enjoy together."
He continued, "Following the closure of the red-light district, we will continue to create additional spaces through the gender equality space development project, including a sex education center, a gender equality cultural complex (Rachivium), and public facilities where all generations can come together, working toward a safer and more equal Paju."
He added, "Gender equality is a promise for all of us to be respected and live happily, and Paju City will do its utmost to realize an equal society together with its citizens."
