Governor Kim Youngrok Pledges a "Gender-Equal Jeonnam Where Everyone Is Respected"
Gender Equality Week Message
Emphasizing Equal Opportunities Without Discrimination
Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, pledged on September 3, together with all residents of the province, to realize a "gender-equal Jeonnam where everyone is happy and respected" in celebration of Gender Equality Week, which takes place during the first week of September (1st to 7th).
In his Gender Equality Week commemorative message, Governor Kim stated, "Despite our ongoing efforts to achieve a gender-equal society, there are still many challenges to address." He emphasized, "When everyone has an equal opportunity to fully demonstrate their abilities and live the life they desire, regardless of gender, we will have a society where everyone is happy and respected."
To realize a gender-equal society, the Jeonnam Provincial Government is implementing various policies, including discovering customized jobs for women through women's job fairs, supporting career-connection vouchers, and expanding certification for work-life balance and family-friendly companies.
Additionally, the province is taking the lead in improving systems to expand opportunities for social participation by young people and women, and to create an environment where diverse families-such as single-parent, multicultural, and grandparent-headed households-are respected without discrimination.
Gender Equality Week is a commemorative week established to encourage all citizens to reflect on the value of gender equality and to strengthen their commitment to practice it. Every year, from September 1 to 7, the central government, local governments, and private organizations jointly hold commemorative ceremonies, campaigns, forums, exhibitions, and cultural events.
