The parking facility will have a total floor area of 5,137 square meters, spanning from one basement level to one above-ground level. The underground level will accommodate a public parking lot with 151 spaces, while the ground level will be developed as a cultural park. The project is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2027.
This project, initiated in response to residents' suggestions, was included in the city's mid-term local finance plan in 2021 and passed a fiscal investment review before commencing basic and detailed architectural design services in 2023. During the process, the city secured 2 billion won in provincial funding by being selected for Gyeonggi Province's parking environment improvement program.
The site is a densely populated residential area on the border of Songjeong-dong and Jungpo-dong. Due to the presence of many aging apartment complexes with insufficient parking, there has been a chronic shortage of parking spaces compared to demand in the area.
Kyunghee Kim, Mayor of Icheon, stated, "The construction of this public parking lot will serve as a model case for improving both convenience in daily life and the urban environment. We will continue to expand parking infrastructure not only in the city center but also in outlying areas."
