Busan, Gimhae, and Yangsan Transfer Fares to Be Fully Waived Starting on the 19th
Intercity Public Transportation Users
Can Save Over 10,000 Won Per Month
The transfer fare for public transportation between Busan and the neighboring cities of Gimhae and Yangsan in South Gyeongsang Province will be free of charge starting next month. This marks a turning point in transportation policy, effectively uniting these areas into a single living zone.
On September 1, Busan Metropolitan City and South Gyeongsang Province (Gimhae and Yangsan) announced that, beginning September 19, all intercity public transportation transfer fares (previously 500 won for adults) will be completely waived. This comes 14 years after the system was first introduced in 2011.
The intercity transfer fare was an additional fee charged when transferring between buses, urban rail, or light rail while traveling between Busan, Gimhae, and Yangsan. There have been ongoing criticisms that this fee increased the financial burden on citizens and hindered the integration of the living zones. With this new agreement, passengers will be able to transfer freely between buses, urban rail, and light rail using only their transportation cards.
Busan City estimates that the free transfer policy will save approximately 5.5 billion won in transportation costs annually. Citizens who commute or attend school daily using intercity public transportation can save more than 10,000 won per month. The policy will be automatically applied to all transportation card users without any separate application process.
