Ilsan Bridge to Expand Hi-Pass Lanes from September 1... Rush Hour Congestion Expected to Ease
Smoother Traffic Flow During Rush Hours
Completion of Hi-Pass Lane Expansion Project
Starting September 1, the number of Hi-Pass lanes on Ilsan Bridge will be expanded from four to six, which is expected to partially alleviate rush hour congestion on the bridge.
Gyeonggi Province announced on August 30 that, following the completion of the Hi-Pass lane expansion project and trial operation carried out in cooperation with the private operator Ilsan Bridge Co., Ltd., the expanded lanes will be in operation starting at midnight on September 1.
Ilsan Bridge is one of the key bridges over the Han River in the northwestern part of the Seoul metropolitan area, with an average of 80,000 vehicles crossing daily. Persistent congestion during rush hours has continued to inconvenience residents.
Originally, four out of a total of ten lanes at the Ilsan Bridge tollgate were operated as Hi-Pass lanes. However, two of the cash payment system (TCS) lanes have now been converted to Hi-Pass lanes using the electronic toll collection system (ETCS).
