"This Is the Commissioner General"... Police Release Voice Phishing Prevention Video
Comprehensive Online and Offline Public Awareness Campaign Launched
The National Office of Investigation at the National Police Agency announced on August 28 that it has produced a voice phishing prevention video to raise public awareness about voice phishing crimes and to draw national attention to the issue.
This public awareness campaign carries the message, "Don't become the main character in a scripted scenario," emphasizing that citizens should not become victims in such schemes.
In the first video, Park Sungjoo, Commissioner General of the National Office of Investigation, personally appears and reenacts a situation in which he receives a voice phishing call impersonating a card delivery worker or a prosecutor during his inauguration ceremony. The remaining four videos go beyond simply warning the public or demonstrating common tactics; they vividly portray the most powerful tools used in voice phishing, such as malicious applications, and deliver detailed methods in a more immersive way.
According to the National Police Agency, as of July this year, there have been 14,707 cases of voice phishing, with damages totaling 776.6 billion won. The number of cases has increased by 25.3% compared to the previous year, and the total amount of damages has nearly doubled.
