The Borasan Baekje Tomb Cluster is a group of tombs constructed during the Hanseong period of Baekje. It was discovered in 2021 during the construction of a detached house in the area.

The city and the research institute conducted a detailed surface survey and identified a total of 32 tombs. Among these, two tombs were at risk of being damaged, prompting the start of an emergency excavation last month.

During the emergency excavation, three stone chamber tombs from the Hanseong period of Baekje were identified. In Stone Chamber Tomb No. 1 (length 269 cm, width 68 cm), one jar, one axe, and one hand knife were unearthed. In Stone Chamber Tomb No. 2 (length 228 cm, width 58 cm), a spindle whorl, beads, and a gilt-bronze earring were found. Beads were also discovered inside Stone Chamber Tomb No. 3 (length 252 cm, width 68 cm).

Based on the nature of the unearthed artifacts, the city estimates that this tomb cluster was constructed after the 4th century.

The excavation site briefing will be held at 10 a.m. on August 28 at San 62-2, Boradong, Giheung-gu. The city plans to present the results of the excavation and release the unearthed artifacts to the public.

Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "The results of this excavation are an important resource for the study of large-scale burial sites in the Yongin region," adding, "It will also help clarify the history of Yongin during the Hanseong period of Baekje."
