View original imageThe Special Prosecutor's Office for the Insurrection Case (Special Prosecutor Cho Eunseok) conducted a search and seizure on August 25 targeting former Minister of Justice Park Sungjae and former Prosecutor General Shim Woojung. This is the first time that both a former Minister of Justice and a former Prosecutor General have been subject to a simultaneous search and seizure.
Starting at 9:30 a.m. on this day, the special prosecutor's team carried out search and seizure operations at the Ministry of Justice, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, and Seoul Detention Center, as well as targeting former Minister Park Sungjae and former Prosecutor General Shim Woojung. The residence of former Minister Park was included in the search, but for former Prosecutor General Shim, only his mobile phone and other belongings-excluding his residence-were searched. The currently vacant office of the Prosecutor General was also included in the search targets.
Former Minister Park is accused of failing to prevent and abetting or participating in former President Yoon's illegal declaration of martial law. On the day martial law was declared, Park was one of the six cabinet members whom former President Yoon first summoned to inform them of his plan.
