Council Hosts Summer Economics Camp for Elementary Students and Their Families
The Korea Council for Investor Education announced on August 25 that it held the "Summer Economics Camp for the Whole Family," an event where elementary school students and their parents participated together, on August 23.
This camp was organized jointly with elementary school teachers from the Economics and Finance Education Research Society as part of efforts to promote financial and economic education in schools. It has been held every school vacation since it began during last year's summer break. Now in its third session, the camp attracted more than 190 participants, including elementary students and their parents.
For parents, Kim Dongyeop, Executive Director at Mirae Asset Investment and Pension Center, delivered a special lecture on "Lifetime Financial Planning and Pension Management in an Era of Low Growth." He introduced methods for setting long-term household financial goals, strategies for stable asset management throughout different life stages, and approaches to utilizing pensions.
For students, an experiential economics education program was offered under the theme of "Rational Consumption and Ethical Consumption." Classes were divided into three groups according to grade level: grades 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6. Topics included developing rational consumption habits, learning about trade and fair trade, and understanding ethical management and fair trade. Through board games and role-playing, students were able to understand the differences between rational and ethical consumption and experience the importance of fair trade and sustainable economic activities.
Han Jaeyoung, President of the Korea Institute of Financial Investment Education (Secretary General of the Council), stated, "When parents and children learn about finance and economics together, it increases opportunities for financial and economic conversations at home, thereby enhancing the educational effect."
