Student Loan Interest Support Program for Local Youth in Gwangju
Full Interest Coverage for Loans Taken Out Between 2017 and 2025
Gwangju City has launched a support program to ease the student loan burden for local youth. On August 25, the city announced that it will accept applications for the "Student Loan Interest Support" program for 31 days, until September 26.
This support program will cover the full amount of interest accrued from January to June 2025 on student loans taken out between the first semester of 2017 and the first semester of 2025, through the Korea Student Aid Foundation.
Applicants must meet all three of the following criteria: ▲ The applicant or their immediate family must have resided in Gwangju City for at least one year; ▲ The applicant must be currently enrolled, on a leave of absence, or have graduated within the past five years from a university or graduate school located in Gwangju or Jeonnam; ▲ The applicant must have used either a general or income-contingent student loan from the Korea Student Aid Foundation.
Applications are accepted online through the Gwangju Youth Integrated Platform. After document review and verification of loan details, final recipients will be selected. The support funds will be deposited into the relevant student loan accounts in December. However, those who have received interest support from other institutions are not eligible. For more details, inquiries can be made to the University Talent Policy Division of Gwangju City.
Since 2011, the city has implemented the student loan interest support program twice a year, in the first and second halves. As of the first half of this year, a total of 22,633 people have received 1.559 billion won in support.
