Sex Offender in His 40s Who Fled After Damaging Ankle Bracelet Arrested in Busan (Comprehensive)
A man in his 40s, who was being monitored for sexual offenses and had damaged his electronic monitoring device (ankle bracelet) before fleeing in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, was apprehended in Busan 17 hours later.
According to the Ministry of Justice on August 23, the Cheongju Probation Office, in cooperation with the police, arrested Mr. A (46) at around 11:33 a.m. that day in Guseo-dong, Geumjeong-gu, Busan. The Ministry of Justice stated, "We plan to refer the case to the prosecution after conducting an investigation in accordance with legal procedures."

Mr. A, who was under probation as a convicted sex offender, damaged his electronic monitoring device and fled at around 6:41 p.m. the previous day in Namimyeon, Cheongju. Authorities issued a public wanted notice. He used public transportation to travel through Jinju, Gimhae, and Busan, after which his whereabouts were unknown.
