Man in His 70s Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Killing Wife After She Requested Divorce
A man in his 70s who killed his wife, who had requested a divorce while they were separated, was sentenced to a heavy prison term in the first trial.
On August 19, the Criminal Agreement Division 15 of the Seoul Southern District Court (Presiding Judge Yang Hwansung) sentenced Mr. Joo to 15 years in prison on charges including murder.
Mr. Joo was accused of killing his wife, who was in her 60s, at their home in Doksan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, at around 2:30 p.m. on March 3.
Investigations revealed that Mr. Joo committed the crime after his wife expressed her intention to get a divorce.

The court stated, "Murder is a serious criminal act that takes another person's life," adding, "There are also some doubts as to whether the defendant is sincerely remorseful for his actions."
