Police: "No Mobile Phone Search in Joonseok Lee Media Collusion Allegations"
Only Media Officials Summoned for Questioning
On August 18, the police stated regarding Joonseok Lee, Representative of the Reform New Party, and the alleged collusion with the media, "After reviewing the complaint and statements from media officials, we found no evidence to suggest interference in broadcasting programming, and therefore determined there was no charge."
At a regular press briefing that day, a representative from the National Police Agency said, "We summoned and questioned a media official last April, but did not conduct any compulsory investigations such as searching mobile phones. Neither Representative Lee nor any Reform New Party officials were questioned."
Regarding allegations that Representative Lee made "sexually violent remarks" during a presidential TV debate, the police stated, "A total of five complaints have been filed, and we have completed questioning the complainants. The investigation is ongoing according to procedure."
On suspicions that Representative Lee had someone else pay for opinion poll expenses on his behalf, the police said, "We received a complaint on May 9 and assigned the case to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Public Crime Investigation Unit. We are currently analyzing the case records received from the prosecution."
Regarding suspicions of stock transactions under borrowed names involving lawmaker Choonseok Lee, the police stated, "We have completed the first round of questioning, but the analysis of seized materials is not yet finished. If necessary, we will request additional appearances."

As for the complaint against Sunwoo Kang, a lawmaker from the Democratic Party of Korea, regarding alleged abuse of power by an aide and subsequent false explanations, the police said, "We are proceeding with the investigation, including questioning the complainant and reviewing relevant materials."
