Mayor Park Heeyoung of Yongsan District Waves Taegeukgi with Children, Chanting "Long Live Korean Independence"
On August 12, just three days before the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day, Yongsan District in Seoul (Mayor Park Heeyoung) held a commemorative event at the Taegeukgi Square on the district office lawn with about 20 children from the district daycare center.

View original imageOn this day, Park Heeyoung, mayor of Yongsan District, personally explained the significance and value of Liberation Day to the children, reflecting on the joy and meaning of Korea's liberation. She then joined the children in holding the Taegeukgi and chanting "Long live Korean independence," recreating the excitement of that historic day. After the event, participants walked through the Taegeukgi tunnel set up next to the district office lawn, reflecting on the meaning of liberation.
Earlier, the district had hoisted a large Taegeukgi on the front of the district office. In the square, Taegeukgi pinwheels and a Taegeukgi tunnel were installed to naturally inspire patriotism among residents. Along a 2.6-kilometer stretch from Hyochang Park to the Samgakji area, banners featuring the Taegeukgi and quotes from independence activists were displayed. Additionally, a total of 3,204 Taegeukgi flags were hoisted along 36.5 kilometers of major roads across 16 neighborhoods in the district.
