Busan Urban Corporation Implements Special Safety Management for Heatwaves and Heavy Rainfall
Site Inspections and Safety Supplies for Heatwaves and Sudden Heavy Rain
Operation of "Mobile Safety Cafe" to Prevent Heat Illness Among Workers
Busan Urban Corporation (BMC, President Shin Changho) announced on August 6 that it implemented a "Special Safety Management Plan for Summer Climate Change" from July 29 to 31, aiming to prevent disasters caused by abnormal weather such as summer heatwaves and localized heavy rainfalls, and to strengthen worker safety.
This special safety management was prepared as an additional response following the disaster preparedness safety inspections conducted in June, in light of ongoing climate changes such as sudden heavy rainfalls without prior forecasts and heatwave warnings (temperatures of 35°C or higher).
The inspection team visited major construction sites and management facilities, including Ilgwang District 4BL, Ecodelta City Section 3-2, Gaegeum 2 District rental apartments, and the BMC headquarters. They focused on checking the following: refraining from outdoor work and ensuring break times during peak heat hours; inspecting the operation of thermometers and rest facilities; confirming the provision of cool water and shaded areas; and verifying the use of heat illness prevention supplies.
BMC also provided additional heatwave prevention safety supplies to protect on-site workers. A total of 1,400 "Rest Reminder Stickers" were distributed to all worksites to be attached to safety helmets, allowing workers to instantly check the risk of heat-related illnesses by observing the color change of the stickers.
In addition, to relieve stress and prevent body temperature increases among on-site workers, BMC operated mobile safety cafes, provided beverages and snacks through coffee trucks, and promoted safety suggestion campaigns as part of participatory safety culture events. These activities were held at three worksites, with approximately 580 participants in total.
One worker who used the safety cafe said, "A cool drink helped refresh my body and mind, which were exhausted from the heat," and added, "I will prioritize safety and strive for high-quality construction."
