Yongin City: "No Smoking at Taxi Stands"
Designation of Non-Smoking Areas
Violators to Face 50,000 Won Fine Starting in November
Starting August 6, the city of Yongin in Gyeonggi Province has designated 100 taxi stands within the city as non-smoking areas.
This designation follows the revision of the "Ordinance on Creating a Non-Smoking Environment and Preventing Damage from Secondhand Smoke in Yongin City." The designated non-smoking areas include both the "taxi stand facilities" themselves and the area within a 10-meter radius from the boundary of the taxi stand sign.
With this designation, the city will implement a three-month guidance period, after which, starting November 7, a fine of 50,000 won will be imposed for violations.

An official from the public health center stated, "Taxi stands are places where citizens of all ages gather, making it easy for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children to be exposed to secondhand smoke." The official added, "We will actively promote and strengthen enforcement of the non-smoking area designation to ensure it provides tangible health benefits for citizens."
