Busan Office of Education to Significantly Strengthen Experiential History and Constitutional Education... Realizing K-Democratic Citizenship Education
Expansion of the Provisional Government Grand Journey, Manchurian Independence Movement, and Historical Site Exploration
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seokjun) will resume the 'Provisional Government Grand Journey,' which had been suspended due to COVID-19, starting next year. In addition, the office plans to expand the 'Leader Development History and Culture Exploration' program, currently operated for 20 high school students, to accommodate 100 students by 2026.
Furthermore, a new 'Buu-Gyeong Student History Exchange' program will be established for middle school students from Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam. This initiative aims to deepen regional community awareness and foster a correct understanding of history. The office will also distribute digital constitutional education materials to all high schools in the district to promote the cultivation of democratic citizenship.
The Provisional Government Grand Journey is a four-day, three-night program that involves direct visits to major historical sites of the Provisional Government, including Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Nanjing. Next year, approximately 200 participants will join the program in two sessions, scheduled for July and December.
The Leader Development History and Culture Exploration focuses on sites of the independence movement in the Manchuria region, such as Harbin and Mount Baekdu, and aims to foster youth leadership and democratic citizenship awareness.
The Buu-Gyeong History Exchange is an experiential program that explores democratization sites such as the 4·19 Revolution, the Buma Uprising, and the June Democratic Uprising. After signing an agreement with the Ulsan and Gyeongnam Offices of Education in the second half of this year, the program will be fully implemented starting in 2026.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will also strengthen participatory constitutional education by providing digital resources that include the Constitution, the Provisional Charter, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
