According to the county on July 24, due to the recent hot and humid climate, the occurrence of pests and diseases such as brown planthoppers, various moths, rice water weevils, rice blast, sheath blight, and rice stripe disease is expected to increase. Therefore, preemptive control using registered pesticides around the heading period is essential.
This comprehensive control initiative is being promoted by designating a specific period to enable simultaneous pest and disease management in adjacent rice paddies, aiming to maximize the effectiveness of control measures and minimize damage to farms.
In particular, for pests and diseases that mainly occur in the lower parts of rice stems, it is important to follow application methods to ensure that pesticides reach the lower areas sufficiently. The use of large-scale sprayers or unmanned helicopters is recommended as being more effective than drones.
This year, the county has allocated a total budget of 1.18 billion won for rice pest and disease control, which is the largest scale in South Jeolla Province relative to rice cultivation area.
An official from the Jindo Agricultural Technology Center stated, "We are strengthening guidance and monitoring activities for farms to minimize pest and disease damage through timely control," adding, "We will continue to provide on-site, practical technical support to reduce the burden on rice farmers and support the production of high-quality rice."
