Four Days After Going Missing in Gapyeong Floods
The search for missing persons at the flood-damaged site in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province has continued for four days, and the body of a man in his 70s who had been missing was found.

View original imageAccording to the police and fire authorities on the 23rd, at around 10:40 a.m. that day, the Emergency Response Unit of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Fire Headquarters discovered and recovered the body of a man in his 70s, identified as Mr. A, near Dolsom Recreation Area in Deokhyeon-ri, Sang-myeon, Gapyeong-gun. The location where the body was found is approximately 7 kilometers from the Daebo-ri fishing spot in Sang-myeon, where Mr. A was reported missing.
On the morning of the 20th at 4:21 a.m., Mr. A was involved in an accident while evacuating with his family by car from the Daebo-ri fishing spot in Sang-myeon after Jojeongcheon Stream overflowed due to heavy rain.
At the time, the family managed to escape from the vehicle. Mr. A's son-in-law and wife survived by holding onto a tree, but Mr. A was swept away by the rapid current and went missing. On this day, the authorities mobilized a total of 883 personnel, including 499 police officers, 188 firefighters, and volunteer firefighters, as well as 103 pieces of equipment such as drones, rescue dogs, boats, and helicopters, to conduct the search operation.
The death toll in northern Gyeonggi Province due to this heavy rainfall has increased to five, with four fatalities in Gapyeong and one in Pocheon.
