Postponement of Military Service and Exemption from Mobilization Training Available for Heavy Rainfall Disaster Areas
The Military Manpower Administration announced on the 23rd that conscripts or their family members residing in areas recently declared as special disaster zones due to heavy rainfall?Gapyeong in Gyeonggi Province, Seosan and Yesan in South Chungcheong Province, Damyang in South Jeolla Province, and Sancheong and Hapcheon in South Gyeongsang Province?may be eligible to postpone their military service dates or be exempted from mobilization training if they have suffered damage.

View original imageThe postponement of military service dates applies to those who have received notifications for military service physical examinations, enlistment as active-duty soldiers, social service personnel, alternative service personnel, or mobilization training, and who wish to postpone due to themselves or their family members suffering damage in the designated special disaster zones. Exemption from mobilization training is available for reservists who have suffered damage within the special disaster zones; if they submit a "damage confirmation certificate" issued by the local government head, they will be exempt from this year’s mobilization training.

Applications for postponement or exemption can be made via phone, fax, or through the Military Manpower Administration’s website (application). Hong Soyoung, Commissioner of the Military Manpower Administration, stated, "We hope that this measure will help expedite recovery from the heavy rainfall damage and allow conscripts to fulfill their military duties in a stable environment after recovery."
