Yongsan District Makes Passport Issuance Easier with Introduction of 'Digital Passport Service Guidance'
Yongsan District in Seoul (District Mayor Park Heeyoung) has newly introduced a 'Digital Passport Service Guidance' using QR codes in response to the surge in passport application requests during the summer vacation season.
A Yongsan district resident is filling out a passport application form by referring to the passport service guidance touchscreen installed on the 3rd floor of the Yongsan District Office. Provided by Yongsan District.

Previously, applicants experienced inconveniences such as increased waiting times and limited space during peak hours when guidance helpers provided one-on-one assistance. This new service addresses those issues.
By scanning the QR code with a smartphone, users can access key information according to the passport service process, including sample application forms, passport issuance procedures, passport photo requirements, and passport collection details. Additionally, a touchscreen has been installed in the passport service office on the 3rd floor of the Yongsan District Office for applicants to refer to while completing their forms.
The service includes instructions on how to fill out required forms such as the passport application form, legal guardian consent form, loss report form, and Romanization change application form. It also provides information on photo specifications, examples of unacceptable photos, issuance fees, mandatory information, important notes, requirements, and procedures.
For the convenience of applicants, the service also offers real-time updates on the waiting status in the district office's passport service room, a map and directions to nearby photo studios, and contact information for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and passport departments at other district offices.
The district plans to produce cards and passport covers printed with QR codes and distribute them to local travel agencies and photo studios as part of an outreach administrative service, aiming to reduce the rate of repeat visits by residents regarding passport services.
Meanwhile, the district office's passport service room operates priority counters for socially vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, seniors, and people with severe disabilities. In addition, every Tuesday, the passport service counter extends its hours until 8 p.m. to further enhance the convenience of passport issuance for residents.
