Party and Government to Process Four Major Agricultural Bills, Including Grain Management Act, in July Assembly
"Close Consultations on Fiscal Measures... Unified Stance Between Party and Government"
"Bills Vetoed by Previous Administration"
The Democratic Party of Korea and the government agreed on July 21 to process the 'Four Major Agricultural Bills,' on which President Yoon Suk-yeol exercised his right of reconsideration (veto), during the July extraordinary session of the National Assembly.
On this day, the party and the government held a high-level working meeting at the National Assembly to discuss major livelihood-related bills.
Jin Sungjoon, the Democratic Party's Policy Committee Chair, met with reporters after the meeting and said, "We have agreed to process the Four Major Agricultural Bills during the July extraordinary session of the National Assembly, with the party and the government reaching a unified position through close consultations not only on the content of the bills but also on the necessary fiscal measures."
Jin further explained, "We held close consultations between the party and the government regarding major livelihood-related bills that need to be addressed during the July extraordinary session. Among them, the Four Major Agricultural Bills have long been a point of contention and were even vetoed by the previous administration."
He added, "We also agreed to do our utmost to ensure that as many major livelihood-related bills promoted by the party as possible are passed in the National Assembly."
The Four Major Agricultural Bills refer to the amendments to the Act on Countermeasures against Agricultural and Fishery Disasters, the Agricultural and Fishery Disaster Insurance Act, the Grain Management Act, and the Act on Distribution and Price Stabilization of Agricultural and Fishery Products. Among these, the amendments to the Act on Countermeasures against Agricultural and Fishery Disasters and the Agricultural and Fishery Disaster Insurance Act passed the plenary session of the National Assembly's Agriculture, Food, Rural Affairs, Oceans and Fisheries Committee on July 14, following bipartisan agreement.
