Opportunity for Realization of Selected Works

On July 21, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will hold the "2025 University (Graduate) Student Urban and Architectural Idea Contest" to foster emerging architects who will lead the "K-Architectural Culture."

This contest is part of the comprehensive support plan for K-Architectural Culture that the city unveiled last month. Under the theme "FUN CITY, Seoul," the contest invites a wide range of ideas about Seoul from aspiring architects.

Starting July 22, students currently enrolled or on leave from domestic and international universities (including graduate schools) can register to participate. Submissions will be accepted for five days starting August 25.

The entries will be judged in September, and a total of five works will be selected: one Grand Prize, one Excellence Award, one Merit Award, and two Honorable Mentions. The selected works will be exhibited in collaboration at Seoul Gallery during the 5th Seoul Urban Architecture Biennale, from September 26 to November 18. The winners will also have the opportunity to collaborate with emerging and mid-career architects to realize their ideas in the first half of next year, alongside other award-winning works from the idea contest.

The city plans to conduct the judging through a separate jury composed mainly of emerging and mid-career architects, evaluating creativity, experimental value, policy relevance, and practical applicability.

Choi Jinseok, Director of Housing at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, said, "We will provide young architects with a challenging and experimental stage on a variety of policy themes to create a vibrant Seoul and actively support the growth of aspiring architects who will lead global architectural culture."
