Ride the Data Wave... Busan Launches 'Big-Data Wave,' the First Integrated Data Platform Among Local Governments
Building a Public-Private Collaborative Data Hub
Leading the Way in Digital Innovation
The city of Busan (Mayor Park Hyungjoon) will officially launch the Busan-style integrated data platform, 'Big-Data Wave,' on July 21, following pilot use by a variety of users including citizens, businesses, and public officials. The data marketplace service offered by this platform is the first of its kind among local governments nationwide.
The platform, which was named through a public contest last year, began its first phase of service with portal functions such as a data repository, analytics services, and dashboards. In March of this year, the second phase, which included the data marketplace and integrated mapping, was completed, and a pilot operation was conducted for about three months starting in April.
The platform provides a range of services: a data catalog that allows users to view public and customized data at a glance; data analytics with dashboards and self-analysis features; various utilization functions such as visualization and data profiling; a data marketplace that supports data purchases, customized requests, and corporate promotion; and visualization services based on a nationwide integrated map.
The city explained that during the pilot period, it incorporated user feedback, enhanced features, and established a system for responding to issues, thereby completing preparations for stable operation. In particular, the city aims to revitalize the local data industry by leveraging private sector data registered through the data marketplace.
The data marketplace service of 'Big-Data Wave' is the first to be introduced among local governments nationwide. It goes beyond simple transactions, facilitating joint data utilization, information exchange, and synergy creation through analysis among companies.
In May, the city also established the 'Busan Public-Private Data Sharing and Utilization Council,' which includes a total of 31 organizations such as private companies and public corporations. Through this initiative, the city encouraged data registration and built collaborative models.
With the official launch of the platform, the city began nationwide online promotion through city and provincial websites and also kicked off an online citizen participation event on the same day. Participants can enter the event, which consists of two themes: a platform naming quiz and a promotional slogan contest.
