View original imageAccording to a recent report by UPI in the United States, Cabrales cheese, which received the highest score at a cheese competition held in Spain, was auctioned for $42,232 (56.64 million won), setting a Guinness World Record. Cabrales cheese is a traditional cheese from the Asturias region in northern Spain, aged in hot and humid natural caves where mold develops.
This cheese, made from cow's milk, weighs about 2.27 kg and was aged for 10 months in the "Los Masos" cave, located at an altitude of approximately 1,524 meters above sea level.
The cheese was produced at the Angel Diaz Herrero cheese factory in the Asturias region of Spain, and was purchased at auction by the local restaurant El Llagar de Colloto. Guinness World Records officially certified this cheese as the "most expensive cheese sold at auction."
