"Thorough Preparation for World Heritage Committee... Seeking Inter-Korean Exchange as Well"
Heo Min, the new Commissioner of the National Heritage Administration, has presented a new direction for national heritage. At the inauguration ceremony held at the National Heritage Administration on July 17, he stated, "We are standing at a new turning point called 'AI Korea,'" and added, "It is also time to redefine the role of the National Heritage Administration." He emphasized, "Let us achieve globalization of our 'K-Heritage' and 'K-Culture' so that not only the Korean people but also people around the world are moved and remember them, by striking a balance between technology and emotion."
He identified digital technology as the key to globalization. He said, "Through smart docents, virtual reality, and AI-based documentation, we must ensure that people around the world can experience the depth and beauty of our culture anytime and anywhere." He further stressed, "The safe and permanent preservation of national heritage must also be achieved through a digital-based management system."
Regarding the recent inscription of the Bangudae Petroglyphs in Ulsan and Mount Geumgang as UNESCO World Heritage sites, he said, "We must pool our passion to preserve the value of these heritages at a high level and promote their globalization." He also proposed, "Let us also seek opportunities to open the door for inter-Korean exchanges."
