Organizations for People with Dwarfism Criticize: "Unacceptable Act"
Football star Ramin Yamal (Barcelona) is set to be investigated by Spanish prosecutors over allegations that he featured a person with dwarfism as a performer at his birthday party.
According to AFP, citing a statement from Spain's Ministry of Social Rights, Ramin Yamal is under investigation by prosecutors for allegedly hiring a person with dwarfism as an entertainer at his 18th birthday party, which was held last weekend, as reported on the 15th (local time).
The report states that Yamal rented a mansion on the outskirts of Barcelona, Spain, to host his birthday celebration, inviting various influencers and Barcelona teammates to mark his coming of age.
However, controversy arose after claims surfaced that Yamal had hired a person with dwarfism to perform at the party. Organizations in Spain representing people with dwarfism strongly criticized the act, calling it "unacceptable in the 21st century," and filed a complaint with the Ministry of Social Rights.
These organizations publicly condemned Yamal's actions, stating that he "reinforced prejudice, promoted discrimination, and damaged the image and rights of people with disabilities." The Ministry of Social Rights said, "We have requested a prosecutor's investigation to determine whether there was a violation of disability rights."
