Buyeo County to Provide Ambulance and Caregiving Support for Severe Bedridden Rare Disease Patients
Private Ambulance Transportation Costs Up to 2.8 Million Won Per Year
Caregiving Support of 300,000 Won Per Month
Buyeo County, South Chungcheong Province, announced on July 14 that it will implement a program to support private ambulance transportation costs and caregiving expenses for residents with severe bedridden rare diseases.
This program targets patients with severe bedridden conditions among those with nationally designated rare diseases (based on 1,338 disease categories). When using a private ambulance, the county will provide support for 70% of the transportation and treatment costs, up to an annual limit of 2.8 million won.
In addition, for patients excluded from the current national caregiving support program due to reasons such as exceeding income thresholds, the county plans to provide caregiving support of 300,000 won per month, up to an annual maximum of 3.6 million won, to help alleviate their actual financial burden.
The county intends to strengthen publicity through cooperation with relevant departments in towns and townships, and to ensure prompt application and support procedures through the public health center and clinics.
An official from the county public health center stated, "This program provides tailored support for patients with severe rare diseases who are outside the institutional safety net," adding, "We will continue to build a comprehensive care system to address welfare blind spots."
