Fire Breaks Out in Downtown Gwangju Building... No Casualties Reported
A fire broke out in a mixed-use building located in the Sangmu district of downtown Gwangju and was extinguished in 21 minutes.
According to the Gwangju Fire Department and other authorities, the fire started at a commercial building in Chipyeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju at around 12:32 p.m. on July 9 and was put out in 21 minutes.
There were no casualties from the fire, but about 400 people who were inside the building had to evacuate in the ensuing commotion.
Additionally, items inside the building were burned, and thick black smoke rose, leaving the exterior walls of the building stained.
The fire authorities believe the fire started from an air conditioner outdoor unit and are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
