With this selection, Goyang will become the first city in northern Gyeonggi Province to benefit from institutional and administrative special exemptions for the demonstration and commercialization of autonomous mobility services. The city is expected to emerge as a forward base for future-oriented urban transportation innovation.

The Autonomous Vehicle Pilot Operation Zone is a system designated by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to simultaneously promote the commercialization of autonomous driving and resolve local transportation issues. Selected zones are granted special exemptions from road and transportation regulations, enabling a wide range of demonstration projects.

As a key city in the northern metropolitan area, Goyang is equipped with an extensive transportation network and smart city infrastructure. The city's ability to effectively support autonomous driving service demonstrations using advanced transportation technologies?such as smart intersections, intelligent CCTV, and vehicle-to-everything communication?was highly evaluated.

During late-night hours, autonomous vehicles will operate along the Daehwa Station?Jeongbalsan Station?Daegok Station?Hwajeong Station section (approximately 10.5 km) to meet late-night travel demand. During the daytime, the route will connect Daehwa Station (Line 3), KINTEX (GTX-A), and KINTEX Exhibition Halls 1 and 2, enhancing convenience for KINTEX visitors.

Goyang Special City plans to maximize user convenience by designing routes that connect nearby commercial and cultural hubs, as well as key locations closely linked to daily life.

A Goyang Special City official stated, "This selection is the result of our efforts to find the intersection between smart cities and future transportation innovation," adding, "We plan to quickly introduce safe and convenient autonomous driving services that citizens can experience firsthand, further enhancing the city's competitiveness."
