The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Residents Association held its 2025 general meeting and inauguration ceremony for the new executive board in a grand manner, strengthening the unity among people from the region and reaffirming their commitment to future-oriented activities.

View original imageThe event took place at 6:30 p.m. on July 4, 2025, in the Raonjena Hotel's Laiciquet Hall on the 6th floor in Daegu. Over 500 people attended, including key figures such as Kim Gwanyong, Senior Vice Chairman of the National Unification Advisory Council, Yang Geumhee, Deputy Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do, Kim Junggi, Acting Mayor of Daegu Metropolitan City, Lee Byunghwan, Mayor of Seongju County, Lee Taehoon, Mayor of Dalseo District, and Jo Jaegu, Mayor of Nam District, as well as the executive boards of 23 cities, counties, and districts, other local leaders, and citizens.
This event was especially significant as it expressed gratitude to outgoing president Choi Byungil for his dedicated leadership and celebrated the inauguration of the new president, Lee Donghwan, who will present a new vision for the association. Attendees reflected on past achievements and shared a meaningful moment, pledging a fresh start together.
In his inaugural address, new president Lee Donghwan stated, "The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Residents Association is not just a hometown alumni group, but a central platform connecting people from our region and those who have moved across the country. We will unite our efforts for the development of our hometown and, through communication with the next generation, develop into a sustainable residents association."
In his congratulatory speech, Senior Vice Chairman Kim Gwanyong emphasized, "The spirit of Daegu and Gyeongbuk has the strength to unite and create miracles in times of crisis. The united power of this association will contribute not only to the development of Daegu and Gyeongbuk, but also to the future of the entire nation."
Yang Geumhee, Deputy Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do for Economic Affairs, said, "In order for the regional economy to thrive in a rapidly changing global environment, the experience and networks of people from our region who have moved elsewhere are essential. The provincial government will actively support the activities of the residents association."
During the main meeting, reports were presented on the 2024 business activities and settlement of accounts, approval was given for the 2025 business plan and budget, and the composition of the new executive board was announced. In addition, plaques of appreciation and merit were awarded to those who contributed to the development of the association.
The awards ceremony was marked by warm applause celebrating the friendship and dedication among members.
In the second part of the event, the executive board's inauguration ceremony was held, featuring a video tribute to outgoing president Choi Byungil's achievements, congratulatory performances, and a dinner that provided networking opportunities and expanded the platform for member interaction.
Meanwhile, the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Residents Association is a private organization established to strengthen bonds among people from Daegu and Gyeongbuk living across the country and to contribute to the development of their hometown. The association has been reinforcing its ties with the local community through annual general meetings, sports events, scholarship programs, and social contribution activities.
This year, in particular, the association is planning a next-generation forum to strengthen ties with young people and a campaign to promote local specialty products, drawing further attention to its future activities.
