Eastar Jet Employee Helps Apprehend Operator of 50 Billion KRW Overseas Illegal Gambling Site
Checked Suspect's Flight Bookings for Three Months and Reported
Received Letter of Appreciation from Seodaemun Police Station
Eastar Jet announced on July 4 that its employee, identified as A, recently received a letter of appreciation from Seodaemun Police Station for contributing to the apprehension of an operator of an illegal overseas gambling website.
Earlier this year, in January, Eastar Jet received a request for cooperation from Seodaemun Police Station regarding the apprehension of a criminal suspect. The request asked the airline to immediately share information with the police if suspect B, a key figure operating an illegal online gambling site overseas with a scale of 50 billion KRW, booked a flight ticket.
In response, employee A checked every single day for about three months to see if B had booked a ticket. On March 28, A detected that B had booked a flight from Gimpo to Jeju and immediately notified Seodaemun Police Station.
The police maintained close communication with Eastar Jet, rushed to Gimpo International Airport, and apprehended B at the boarding gate just before boarding the aircraft.
