'Substandard Gasoline' That Disabled 13 Vehicles... "99% Was Water"
Sample Analysis Reveals 99% Water Content
Aging Petroleum Pipeline Suspected to Have Caused Water Contamination in Gasoline
The substance of the "substandard gasoline" sold at a gas station in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, has been found to be water.
According to Gunsan City and the Gunsan Police Station on July 2, the Korea Petroleum Quality & Distribution Authority analyzed samples collected at the time of the incident last month and found that 99% of the substance was water.
It is presumed that the underground petroleum pipeline at the gas station had deteriorated and developed holes, causing water to mix with most of the gasoline.
On June 6 last month, there were a series of reports that 13 vehicles that had filled up with gasoline at a gas station in Gunsan stopped while driving. In response, Gunsan City and the police have been investigating the cause.
The city determined that it was not a case of intentional production of fake petroleum products and recently issued a warning to the business owner.
