Man in His 40s Booked for Fatally Striking Signalman While Driving and Looking at Mobile Phone
A man in his 40s has been booked by police after fatally striking a signalman while looking at his mobile phone while driving a truck.
On June 20, Gwangju Nambu Police Station announced that it had booked a man in his 40s, referred to as Mr. A, on charges of causing death by traffic accident under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents, after he fatally struck a signalman.
Mr. A is suspected of fatally striking a signalman in his 40s while driving a 1-ton truck in Yangchon-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju, at around 1:30 p.m. the previous day. The signalman was transported to the hospital but died as a result of the accident.
According to the investigation, Mr. A caused the accident because he was looking at his mobile phone while driving and failed to notice the signalman. It was confirmed that he was neither unlicensed nor under the influence of alcohol.
The police are investigating the detailed circumstances of the accident.
