Seokgon Kim of Chungnam Provincial Council Proposes Revised Ordinance to Promote Ecotourism
"A Sustainable Strategy to Preserve the Environment and Revitalize the Local Economy"
Seokgon Kim, a member of the Chungnam Provincial Council (Geumsan 1, People Power Party), announced that the 'Ordinance on the Full Revision of the Ordinance on Supporting the Promotion of Ecotourism in Chungcheongnam-do,' which he proposed, passed the review of the Health, Welfare, and Environment Committee at the 359th regular session on June 18.
According to Council Member Kim, although Chungnam possesses excellent natural environments such as tidal flats and ecological streams, insufficient linkage among ecotourism resources and a lack of consistency in management have prevented these assets from contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.
The revised ordinance aims to address these ongoing issues by including measures such as conducting surveys on ecotourism resources, discovering new ecotourism assets, fostering ecotourism professionals, and developing ecotourism programs and content.
Kim emphasized, "Ecotourism is a sustainable strategy that can preserve the environment while simultaneously revitalizing the local economy," and added, "In an era when the unique characteristics of each region are being lost, Chungnam Province must actively utilize its ecotourism resources to promote balanced regional development and boost tourism in Chungnam."
