It also focuses on strengthening the support system for local legislative activities and decentralizing the national knowledge information infrastructure.
In particular, the agreement carries the significance of preliminary cooperation to jointly pursue hosting the 2026 World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) in Busan, marking the third anniversary of the opening of the National Assembly Library's Busan branch.
Going forward, the two institutions plan to gradually promote the sharing of materials and research achievements, joint projects for local legislatures, regular seminars and forums, joint operation of educational and cultural programs, and joint responses to international events.
The National Assembly Library, which started in 1952 in Busan during the wartime capital period, is now the largest parliamentary library in Korea with approximately 8.5 million volumes. It is expanding its role as a knowledge information platform, centered on its main building in Seoul and the Busan branch.
As a national flagship university, Busan National University has led various public and private cooperation models based on a balance between academic and practical pursuits. Through this agreement, the university plans to further accelerate the spread of knowledge-based initiatives for regional and national development.
President Choi Jaewon said, "This agreement marks the beginning of practical cooperation linking academia and policy, as well as the local and central governments," adding, "It will serve as an opportunity for Busan National University to strengthen its role as a knowledge-based regional hub university."
Director Hwang Jungkeun of the National Assembly Library stated, "Through cooperation with Busan National University, we will create a successful cooperation model that contributes to the development of regional knowledge culture and the cultivation of talent."
