Medical School Professors Nationwide Call for Appointment of Ministers Capable of Resolving Medical Crisis
"Medical Education System Faces Collapse
Due to Simultaneous Classes for Three Cohorts"
Professors from medical schools across the country have argued that the foundation of medical education and the healthcare system is collapsing following the government's increase in medical school admissions, and insisted that the new Ministers of Education and Health and Welfare must be individuals capable of presenting solutions to the current crisis.
The National Council of Medical School Professors issued a statement on June 13, declaring, "We must halt the collapse of the national healthcare system and restore it before it is too late. Resolving the current situation is one of the most urgent and highest-priority national tasks," and added, "We need Ministers of Education and Health and Welfare who will act for the people and the future."
The council stated, "The unprecedented situation in which students admitted in 2024, 2025, and 2026 are taking classes simultaneously, while also having to conduct residency training, signifies the collapse of the medical education system." They continued, "(The new ministers) must have a clear understanding of the crisis in medical education and the medical field, and be able to present feasible solutions."
