77th Chungnam Provincial Sports Festival Opens in Cheonan After 21 Years
Over 11,000 Athletes Compete in 31 Events Until the 15th

View original imageThe torch of the Chungnam Provincial Sports Festival has returned to Cheonan for the first time in 21 years. At the 77th Chungnam Provincial Sports Festival, which runs until the 15th, more than 11,000 athletes from 15 cities and counties are competing in 31 events.
The opening ceremony was held on the evening of the 12th at Cheonan Sports Complex, with over 20,000 participants including Governor Kim Taeheum, Acting Cheonan Mayor Kim Seokpil, athletes, and spectators in attendance.
The ceremony began with a Black Eagles air show, followed by performances from the Cheonan Municipal Pungmul Troupe and the winners of the Heungtaryeong Dance Festival, the athletes' parade, the raising of the festival flag, the lighting of the torch, and a drone light show.
The torch was lit on the 10th at the Tower of the Nation at the Independence Hall of Korea and traveled through 31 towns and districts in the Cheonan area. The torch relay featured Chungnam residents, franchise star Kim Taekyun of the Hanwha Eagles, Moon Pilhee from the film "Forever the Moment," Cheonan childbirth promotion ambassador Kim Sojeong, and marathoner Lee Bongju, among others.
Governor Kim Taeheum stated, "As the festival is being held in Cheonan, a city of open exchanges and a transportation hub, I hope everyone will come together with one heart and one mind," adding, "I wish for the unity of our residents and the success of all athletes."
Acting Mayor Kim Seokpil also said, "We have worked hard to make this festival the best sports and cultural event," and encouraged, "I hope many people will fully enjoy the Provincial Sports Festival."
